As I ran over the golden sand
I spied something across the land.
In my favor, it was unplanned.
I picked up a treasure in my hand.
This golden trinket shimmered and shined.
Never thought that I would find,
Something that had been left behind
Worth so much in my mind.
This golden thing is my treasure,
The value of it cannot be measured.
I keep it with me for my pleasure.
I love my little golden treasure.
What I like most about this poem is that the golden treasure is never specified; it's left up to the reader's imagination as to what the golden tresaure actually is. By the line, "Worth so much in my mind," it's implied that the treasure's worth is not material, which makes the "golden" quality more figurative than literal, which is great. I also love the idea that this poem expresses - that we often find the most valuable things of our lives by accident and when we least expect it. Your rhyme scheme is really impressive. I've written a fair amount of poetry, but I've never attempted to rhyme more than two lines at a time. All of your lines rhyme perfectly and still make sense - a difficult feat and you pulled it off.
ReplyDeleteI liked your poem a lot. I liked how you rhymed each word at the end of each stanza , it must have been hard to find four decent words that rhymed instead of just two. I'm glad your poem wasn't depressing either :) It seemed very up-beat and I can picture it all happening. Very good job.
ReplyDeleteHowever you went about pickng the topic of this poem, it was brilliant. Like Kate said, the golden treasure is left up to the reader. Their imagination can put anything together. I wish I could just take Kate's postbecause it perfectly expresses how I feel. The rhyme scheme is excellent. It makes me feel almost fortunate because I have found a "golden treasure" before and it was unexpected. I wonder what kind of treasures you could have found to inspire this.
ReplyDeleteYou're poem reminded me of summer and finding a treasure on the beach! I loved it! I wish it was still summer time lol. You rhymed very well throughout the poem and the idea was extremely creative. The poem was also extremely optimisitic which is wonderful on a dreary day.
